Did you know that when the two ears are put side by side they form the shape of a heart?

The word ear also sits right in the middle of the word heart (h-ear-t). When I counsel patients in our office about their hearing loss, I use a phrase quite often telling them that the ear is just a window to get the sound in and that your brain is what pieces it all together. Anatomically, this is true, but emotionally, the ear is the way to the heart.

If we could also picture our eardrums as tiny little hearts, we could see that there is a lot of love being generated from such a small part of our body! When your ear functions normally, we hear normally, but when it becomes damaged, resulting in hearing loss, we need to give those little guys some help with hearing devices.

Talking about hearing devices and making decisions about your hearing loss for the first time can be overwhelming and intimidating for some people. Others find the decision rather easy. Either way, the end goal is to get back to hearing all the people and things we love and are missing out on.

As I sit here writing this, I took a mental note of all the things I have loved hearing just this morning. My little dog Cooper barking at me to say, “Hey it’s time to get up, and I need to go outside.” My coffee brewing today and every day! My cell phone text notification from my daughter-in-law; she let me know she loves me and appreciates me. My groggy, sleepy husband telling me good morning when he got up. The golf club hitting the ball off the tee on the golf channel. My furnace keeping me warm, it’s cold, like really, really cold here in Ohio today. My daughter’s voice when she called me. This is just a little snippet of my morning. I didn’t get to talk to them today yet, but my grandbabies, I just cannot get enough of them.

Perhaps if you are debating on making the first step to come in and see us at Centers for Hearing Care, start by writing your own list. What is it that you would love to hear but are struggling to? Let’s make that list the driving force and put every other fear on the back burner. I promise you we will walk you through every step of the way. We truly love what we do, and we want those little tiny hearts in your ears to generate so much love in your life you can’t help but wonder why you waited so long!
