During these challenging times, it is our intention to continue to find ways to support you, even if from a distance. We fully recognize that coping with hearing loss can compound the feelings of stress and anxiety that come with the increased sense of isolation we are all feeling right now due to the Coronavirus or Covid-19.
Over the next couple of weeks we’d like to share a few ways to cope and stay healthy while we all weather this storm together.
Maintain Connection with friends and family
We list this one first because it’s so important to maintain connection with others to avoid feelings of isolation. A few ways you can make sure this is part of your day is by having phone or video calls with friends and family, or connecting via social media or email.
If there are people in your life that you haven’t connected with in some time, this could be the perfect opportunity to get back in touch.
If you are looking for a video calling service that offers closed captioning, Skype and Google Hangouts both offer this.
Incorporate Meditation and yoga
According to HealthLine , “meditation reduces stress levels, controls anxiety and promotes emotional health.”
Let’s be honest with ourselves and others. This is a stressful time, and that’s okay to admit. If you have never tried meditation before, this might be an excellent time to give it a try. Our current favorite app for this is the 1 Giant Mind meditation challenge. It’s completely free, and you can load it on your Apple or Android device.
Getting your body moving is also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety, and yoga is a very gentle and relaxing way to incorporate this into your life,
“Yoga increases body awareness, relieves stress, reduces muscle tension, strain, and inflammation, sharpens attention and concentration , and calms and centers the nervous system ,” according to Psychology Today .
We recommend Yoga with Adrienne .
Her YouTube channel is completely free and offers hundreds if not thousands of gentle yoga videos that will get you moving with just the right amount of challenge for beginners.
Dance to your favorite song!
Ok – we’ll admit – this can seem a bi silly, but there’s tons of evidence that supports the fact that dancing is a great way to reduce stress and release those “feel good” hormones to support good mood and positive mindset. Here’s what the Mayo Clinic has to say about it. Dance Party!
Again, we know these are trying times. We hope this message may support you even if in the smallest of ways.
